Thoughts Lately

July 29, 2015 — Leave a comment

Oh boy, where to start?

I have been feeling a little down and defeated the past few days, and couldn’t really place where it was coming from.  I saw a Facebook post today by one of my favorite bloggers, Pretty Fluffy, and it was like, “oh, that’s it.” I feel like she put into words what has been weighing on my heart.

I am highly emotionally connected to animals.  I truly take to heart every good and bad story, and all the bad, evil stories had been adding up.  I wish these situations never came into existence in the first place, but I am grateful that the stories are shared because then they can inspire change and goodness to come out of it.

Cruelty Free

I know it is hard, it is a challenge that I face everyday, but try not to dwell on the negative.  Take it as a cue to make a difference.  Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing some actions I have taken to make a difference for animals.  I hope that you will join me!

Here are some of my favorite things for May!

1. I have some pops of blue throughout my apartment, and have had my eye on this print to add to them.

2. I have been obsessed with this Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Peony scent for spring. I don’t like super flowery scents, but this one works and has a sweetness and freshness to it. And it’s cruelty free!

3. I would more than welcome this gnome into my home!

4. I am very picky when choosing a planner.  I need a good monthly calendar layout, enough to do list space in the weekly calendar, and it has to be cute!  This ban.do agenda has it all! Also, please do yourself a favor and start following ban.do’s Founder and Creative Director, Jen Gotch, on Instagram @jengotch. You’re welcome.

5. While you’re over there following Jen, start following @girlwithnojob.  P.S. I ❤ Zac Efron.

6. I’ve been wanting a vintage globe. One with the perfect shade of teal blue (another pop of blue!), but this chalkboard globe is pretty awesome.  It would look great on a bookshelf, in an office, in a kid’s room, or in a classroom.  Could be a great end of the year teacher gift too!

7. Each month, a group of my friends and I have a “wine club” night. We always at least have cheese and crackers, so I would like to get this cheese board by the next time I host.  I actually got this for my boyfriend’s parents for Christmas so I have seen it in action, and it is great quality and so sleek.

Hope you are having a great start to your weekend!

My birthday is coming up next Wednesday!  I feel so blessed and that I don’t need any gifts… but it’s just natural to have a couple fun things in the back of your mind that you would want to splurge on 😉

1. I could watch HGTV all day! I’ve bought the past couple month’s HGTV magazines and would love to have a subscription for monthly inspiration.

2. I’ve had my eye on this bracelet for a while.  One of my favorite bloggers, Katey McFarlan of Chronicles Of Frivolity, has this bracelet with Phil 4:6 engraved on it, and I would love to have that on my wrist as a daily reminder.

3. Save all the dogs! Need I say more?! and the net proceeds of this tee are given to a different rescue or shelter each month!

4. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that my sweet boyfriend got me some new cacti and an aloe plant for my apartment.  I’m planning on getting these gold pots for the 3 cacti.

5. This bracelet is a great deal!

6. This print, inspired by Parks and Rec, would look perfect in my kitchen.

7. Long live snail mail! This tray would be fitting for an entry way table or an office.

What is on the wish list in the back of your mind?

Another month, another list of favorites…

1. Jennifer Hudson Carpool Karaoke: From The Late Late Show with James Corden.  This is hysterical!  I have had this playing on repeat like it is a single.  I wish I could hang out with them 😉

2. Half Up Knot Hair Tutorial: The perfect combo of romantic and simple.  I don’t like to put a ton of work into doing my hair, but need to branch out a bit.  I’m gonna have to try this!

3. Vegan Leather Tote: Looks similar to a very popular Rebecca Minkoff bag, but vegan!  Love!

4. Kendra Scott Abra Double Band Ring: I have mixed feelings about Kendra Scott jewelry.  Some I like, but I feel it has been VERY overdone in the blogging community.  This ring, however, I haven’t seen too much of and I like that it can be both a statement ring, and a dainty detail.

5. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: I cannot recommend this show enough.  It is hilarious…quirky humor + 90s references and I’m sold.  Go watch it NOW!

6. The Honest Company Multi-Surface Cleaner: Over the past few years I have worked on doing a complete overhaul of all my beauty and cleaning products to switch to cruelty free products.  I am very passionate about protecting and rescuing animals.  The Honest Company products are not only cruelty free, but also non-toxic and safe.  This multi-surface cleaner has the scent of white grapefruit and makes it so much easier to do spring cleaning.  It fills your home with a wonderful aroma!

I hope you’ll check some of these out!

Cinderella

March 30, 2015 — Leave a comment

I’m basically a little girl trapped in a 20-something’s body.  I am currently drinking pink lemonade and have High School Musical playing in the background. I always check out the little girl’s shoe section at Target AND have purchased some. I’ve seen the new Cinderella movie twice now….and will probably go again soon!

The new Cinderella movie is stunning…between the art direction, the costumes, the moment the Prince and Ella meet…ahh, *heart flutters!*  The Prince and Ella are b-e-a-utiful!

Actress, Lily James, had a few of her own Cinderella moments while on the red carpet at the Cinderella premieres.  I am kind of obsessed with these looks.  Light, romantic makeup and hair, shimmering gowns, and magical accessories.  Straight up perfection!

There are an overwhelming amount of national (insert something here) days and months, but this is one I can wholeheartedly support!

I love paper goods, greeting cards, and sending & receiving letters.  During college, I would always send cards back to my parents and grandparents, even though I saw them at least once a month.  I also love to send thank you notes.  If someone goes out of their way for you, you can go out of your way to send them a thank you to show your appreciation!

I also was on the receiving end of this practice lately, when I received a sweet card from one of my best friends from college who knew I was going through a tough couple of weeks.  Not only was the note inside perfect, but the pure fact that I got something fun in the mail brightened my day.

Here are some every-occasion cards I’ve had my eye on.  Get writing!

Favorite Things March 2015

These are a few of my favorite thingsss…

These are a few tried and true favorites, as well as some items I’ve had my eye on for a while!

1. Trader Joe’s Fireworks Chocolate: Baby you’re a firework! I got this as a treat for my guy and I on Valentines Day, mostly based on the packaging. I have since bought like 10 of these bars. It’s a mix of dark chocolate, hot spice, salt, and pop rocks. So weird, but so good. Also, it is quite entertaining to give some to an unsuspecting person and watch their reaction as the pop rocks kick in!

2. Stella and Dot Rebel Pendant: I have had this necklace for about two years, and it is such an easy piece to wear. Throw it on by itself or layer it…looks great either way. I have the gold and silver, but get much more wear out of the gold.

3. Asos Dress: It’s currently on sale! This would be a great fall to winter to spring transition piece. Dress it up with heels and a statement necklace, or dress it down with a chunky, long cardigan and ankle boots.

4. Anthropologie Euclidean Pendant: I wish I had somewhere to put this! Love that it is a solid enough to draw the eye to, but is airy and delicate at the same time.

5. I Just Want To Drink Coffee T-shirt: This is my life. On my birthday wish-list.

6. Surf Waiting Painting: Beautiful sea glass colors and serene subject. I could stare at this all day, especially during Michigan winters.

7. T-Swizzle, Style: Okay, first of all, I am so glad that she transitioned to pop.  Second, the guy has two different colored eyes. Stunning! Third, this song reminds me of a love from summers passed. Takes me back to butterflies, high school, and gets me pretty psyched for this upcoming summer.  I could listen to this all day.

What are some of your current favorites?

Each year I end up writing down resolutions, but I kind of get carried away…I make like 10 resolutions and each resolution has multiple, specific bullet points.  I make it nearly impossible for myself to accomplish every resolution.  Then, I look back on the year and feel bad because of the resolutions that I couldn’t keep up with.  This year, I am choosing not to look back on my resolutions for 2014, but instead, to reflect on the things that I did accomplish.

1.  Foot surgeries are out of the way!  I am still working to gain flexibility, but the hard part is over.

2.  I got a new job.  I still miss my old co-workers which were the best part about my old job, but it felt like a weight was lifted as I moved on from a draining position. This new job has made me step out of my comfort zone, as well as become more assertive, and I think this has reflected in my personal life too.

3. I moved into a new flat.  I have never lived by myself, which took a bit to get used to.  However, I love not dealing with other roommate’s messes!  This has been a really fun project for me since I love interior design.  I have had to budget and pace myself, but I am looking forward to continuing to build a space that I love.

4.  I have moved on from friendships that felt draining, unfulfilling or one-sided.  I have learned to direct my energy towards people who will make the same effort for me.  Along with this, my friends have created some fun traditions over this year, such as monthly dinners, wine club, and up north trips.  I look forward to more of these in the new year!

5. The bf got a new puppy, Mikey!  Now, I know this isn’t an accomplishment of mine, but Mikey has been a welcome addition to my life.  He has already taught us a lot about love, patience and responsibility, and I’m sure will continue to do so.  He has also helped me gain a personal connection to a cause that I have always felt passionate about…rescuing dogs.

So what would I like to accomplish in 2015? (and in keeping in line with my previous statements, these are overall, blanket goals)…

1.  Make my health a priority.  I started off 2014 feeling pretty, blah, with having a month + of sitting around and elevating my foot.  I took my time with the recovery so not to push it too much.  A year later, I am ready to get back into a routine.  I would like to get to bed at a decent hour, drink more water, eat healthier, start practicing yoga, and build muscle that was lost during my recovery time.

2. Work on this blog.  I keep allowing life to get in the way and push this back, but I think having this little passion project will make me happier.

3.  Save more money.  Dolla dolla bills y’all.

4. Travel.  Whether this be weekend trips or longer vacations, I always feel more adventurous and ready to take on the world after experiencing a new place.

5.  Help rescue dogs.  I am very emotional when it comes to this topic, so I know that I would have a hard time actually volunteering in a shelter.  However, I know that there are things I can do, and I plan to narrow that down.

What have you accomplished in 2014?  What would you like to do in 2015?
